Mean Girls actress Rachel McAdams will star as Ani Bezzerides, a sheriff’s detective whose “uncompromising ethics put her at odds with others and the system she serves”, reports Entertainment Weekly.
Meanwhile Friday Night Lights star Taylor Kitsch will play Paul Woodrugh, a war veteran and motorcycle police officer, who is running from a difficult past and a scandal that “never happened”.

So far, the plot appears to be dramatically different to the first season, centring on the murder of a corrupt businessman. Here’s what we know so far:

Also cast is English actress Kelly Reilly, who previously starred in Calvary alongside Brendan Gleeson. She will play the wife of Vince Vaughn’s mobster, a D-list actress and full partner in his shady enterprises.
According to Entertainment Weekly, production has already started for the second season, which HBO hopes to air next summer.
